Here's What's Happening in Arklahoma
High school football for most area teams kicks off Friday night.
The Fort Smith Radio Group will once again follow games played by the Southside Rebels, Northside Grizzlies, Van Buren Pointers, Alma Airedales and Booneville Bearcats. If you are interested in being a sponsor, contact the Fort Smith Radio group.
Thursday night, high school football begins in the area with Clarksville taking on Charleston in the Simmons First Hooten’s Arkansas Classic at Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, a game that will be aired on the Sports Hog 103.1.
In high school football last night, Shiloh Christian whipped Watson Chapel 54-22, Pulaski Academy beat Central Arkansas Christian 59-33, Lonoke defeated Star City 38-29 and Vilonia defeated Sylvan Hills 42-14.
The Razorbacks open the season Saturday night at home against Tennessee Tech. Still no starter at runningback.
Early Heisman polling has Razorback quarterback Ryan Mallett at fifth at this time.
St. Louis is now six games behind Cincinnati in the National League Central Division. The Cards lost again to the Houston Astros 3-0 last (Monday) night. The Cards face the Astros tonight (Tuesday) on AM 1230 KFPW.
Kansas City dropped a 3-0 decision to American League West leading Texas Rangers. The two teams play again tonight on the Sports Hog 1580.
The First Tee of Fort Smith will hold after school sessions beginning August 31st. they will run through May 12th of 2011. The clinics will begin at 4:30 and end at 5:30 each afternoon. There is a $25 fee and scholarships are available, as is transportation. For more information on this program, contact the First Tee of Fort Smith at 648-9833.
